The Civil Service Commission of Reserve Township, Allegheny County is now accepting applications for the position of full-time police officer at the Reserve Township Municipal Building, 33 Lonsdale Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212; (412) 322-1551.  Application Fee of $35 will be refunded upon completion of physical agility test.  May be eligible for sign-on bonus.

Lateral Transfer Benefits include top rate upon hire date and vacation time based upon prior years of full-time experience.

All hires will be provided with uniforms and ballistic vest.

$1,000 / year uniform allowance after one year of service.

Comprehensive benefit package including sick time, paid holidays, personal days, comp time, and paid court time.

Test Date

Physical agility and written test will be held at Allegheny County police training academy on March 31,2026 at 9:00 AM

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age 21 years,
  • High School Diploma or GED,
  • US Citizen,
  • PA Operators License,
  • Act 120 Certification and/or Certification as a police officer within PA
  • Must pass physical agility test consisting of: 300-meter Run:  <71 seconds, Push-ups: minimum of 25
  • in 60 seconds, Sit-ups: minimum of 29 in 60 seconds, Vertical jump: minimum of 16 inches.
  • Must pass written, oral, and psychological exam and background check,
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and differentiating shifts.
  • Minimum of sixty (60) credit hours which credit hours shall have
    been obtained from an accredited college or university and/or have
    been certified as a police officer in the state of Pennsylvania and
    have been working as a police officer for a minimum of 1,000
    hours.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF A POLICE OFFICER

  • Running for several hundred yards.
  • Climbing over obstacles.
  • Crawling.
  • Pushing motor vehicles.
  • Pulling or carrying accident, fire, and crime victims.
  • Using physical force to apprehend and subdue arrestees.
  • Withstanding prolonged exposure, as long as eight (8) hours, to extreme weather conditions.
  • Withstanding prolonged periods of standing or sitting.
  • Withstanding frequent exposure to stress-producing situations such as encountering persons injured or killed by accidents, crimes, or suicide.
  • Dealing with domestic disputes.
  • Dealing with verbal and physical abuse of the officer, including taunts, insults, and threats to the officer, family members, or fellow police officers.
  • Communicating effectively with individuals suffering from trauma.
  • Operating a motor vehicle for long periods of time.
  • Using a firearm effectively; and
  • Filling out written reports in a clear and concise manner.
  • Other tasks as assigned, based on departmental needs.
